GARDEN PARTY

When I was a little girl I was enamoured by the delightful children's book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I loved it’s opening line ‘One night a little egg lay on a leaf’, I loved it’s stunning bright collage illustrations and cheeky buffet of yummy food stuff – I’ve been reading it to my daughter lately and I still adore the journey of caterpillar > chrysalis > butterfly... 

When Spelly concepted Garden Party her mood boards were filled with visuals of 1960’s icons Sharon Tate at a pool party, the work of the iconic Slim Aaron’s and a lot of vintage fashion magazines and of course, butterflies.

Taking the whimsical butterfly into our signature prints with a little nod to 2000s, she wanted this collection to feel so floaty yet sophisticated – while exploring a woman’s own journey from chrysalis to elegant Butterfly. From the ditsy florals, innocent and fun to muted colours in ethereal floating folds of elegant fabric.

For this campaign, we wanted to take the collection to the source of the inspiration, into a Palm Springs backyard and celebrate our own rebirth, our own ‘coming out of our chrysalis’ after a long year (or two!) of bunkering down! It has been a tough year for many, and we wanted this collection to feel hopeful, light and full of promise… here’s to a season of reuniting with loved ones, delayed celebrations coming into fruition and a carefree festive season.
